..... SURPRISE! You’re surprised aren't you? You seem baffled. You didn't think we would be here, on this wonderful Saturday to present a new artist to you didn't you? Thought so. Even though we don’t like to blow our own trumpet, we have to admit, we're marvelous. We love surprises. From birthday parties to funeral pyres, we're here to create a special event to blow our friends' mine. The friends being you. The event being the Saturday illustrated FMLs. So slip on your favorite cardigan, pour yourself some peppermint tea, relax, and read on.
-What's your name and surname?
-Eric Cobain "Cobainiac". I'm 29
(Side note: years-old? gallons? We'll probably never know.)
-Where do you live?
-Los Angeles, CA.
-What is your profession?
-Freelance art. For the past 6+ years, I've been making merchandise art for the music industry. (logos, shirts, albums, flyers...) I also am a Flash Animator. I've got a few websites online, and have been working on an online cartoon miniseries. At the beginning of the year I started working for the comic book industry. I've been working for Boom! Studios working with their Disney licensed books. (The Muppet Show, Toy Story, Donald Duck...) I also just started working on a few new projects I'm not allowed to talk about, yet.
-Can you tell us more about your life?
-What are your next projects?
-Your website www.COBAINIAC.com is … pretty special!
-My site is a fully interactive flash site made to show off my art and flash talents at the same time. I've got a pretty fun little zombie game on the homepage. I've been swamped this year, so I'm going to be adding everything 2010 in the next couple weeks. Check it out. It's a good time.
(Side note: watch out, this website is not for children, you've been warned.)
-What inspires you?
-I love cartoons, obviously. I grew up watching the Simpson's, religiously. When I got a little older, I started going to Spike and Mike's Sick and Twisted Film Festival. That made me look at cartoons in a whole different way after that. I saw the first ever South Park there, way before comedy central picked them up. Up until then, I didn't realize there could be a dark side to cartoon humor. After that, I pretty much appreciate anything that's truly over the top. I like when movies and music push the limits.
-What makes you laugh the most?
-I have a sick sense of humour. The more shocking the joke, the more I can appreciate it.
-Why did you choose this FML?
-I've actually often thought of this scenario. Just the thought that it really happened cracks me up.
-Do you have your own FML anecdote that you can share us?
-They all involve working in restaurants. Check out my comic series- "I HATE THIS F&$%ing Job" on my facebook page.
Here's one though. One night a lady asked me what was in the Chinese chicken salad. I let her know it had chicken, oriental dressing, vegetables, and a few other things. She looked me dead in the eye and as serious as she could be, she said,"vegetables?!? Who puts vegetables in a salad?!?"
FYL. And FHL for being such a carnivore. Thank you Eric for your illustrated FML!
If you want to be the next published artist, send an email to firstname.lastname@example.org including a link to your website/blog. If you don't have one, attach some of your drawings. But DON'T send your illustration right away! You need first to get in touch with Alice (who loved the surprise her friends did for her birthday, seriously, the song was awesome and the moustache cake almost raised Freddie from the dead) who will tell you what you have to do!
