Hey nerds, how are your curves today? Have you seen Lijun Wang's last research about the possible relation between Gauge theories and Geometric Langlands program? Gotcha! It's not Wang but Edward Witten! If you know who one of those two men is, you're probably a mathematics geek, and if you are, you're lucky because today is the √FML day. You may have been mocked, annoyed, thumped or worse during high-school because of your glasses and your incredible love for the library. Those days are over, and if not, just pretend they are. FML, supported by Lisa Simpson, is happy and proud to say out loud that mathematics are cool, physics are hot, theorems are fun and calculators can be your true BFF. And we don't care if some people don’t like it, because now we have contact lenses, so nobody can break our glasses again. Who's the loser now? Anyway, we know who is not a loser, today's artist of course! Nerds, geek, stormtroopers, ladies (yeah, right...) please welcome Dave Valeza!
Dave is 25 years old, he lives just outside the L.A. area, back where he was born, but he's seeing this more of as a pause than a permanent return. So Dave grew up in sunny L.A. like one of those kids you'd see on a TV high school program, but he got tired of L.A and so he went to art school, at the Savannah College of Art and Design. It took 5 years for him before he went back to the city of angels. And actually, he's planning to move again, up north, but it's mostly a vague idea for now. Wait and see.
Dave has two jobs: he makes comics and works retail jobs. He actually likes it, he can meet people at a "day job" where he doesn't have to to constantly think about comics, and vice versa, and he confesses it keeps him from going crazy. But a big project is coming, Dave is working a book of his own right, he's quietly enjoying it as he's already planning to create another one while the first one is being released. It's a graphic novel that he's doing for a major comic company, a great guy wrote it and he's drawing it, the book should be out next year, if everything goes well, even though there hasn't been an official announcement yet, so let's keep this between us.
Now let's get curious, what does Dave like, you know, the little pleasures that take us a lot of time: "Oh jeez, those are terrible things. I ink my pages to soap operas and telenovelas. It's my guilty pleasure after stressing out over a comic page. I also like thunderstorms, riding bikes, screwball comedies, and a lot of sci-fi. I like ethnic food, assorted beers, and the world cup." Altogether, GOAL!
"-Here are our two last questions before we let you draw amazing comics again, why did he choose this FML?
-I could see it in my head right away when I read it; this is pretty much what it looked like. Plus, I like puns.
-And why wouldn't participate! Also my friend Becky did an illustration for you guys, so you're cool peeps!"

We hope we're as cool as your illustration Dave! Thanks for your participation!
If you want to be the next published artist, send an email to firstname.lastname@example.org which starts with a hello and ends with a goodbye, including your name, age, and a link to your website/blog. If you don't have one, attach some of your drawings. But DON'T send your illustration right away! You need first to get in touch with Alice, who still hates her high school math teacher Miss Heral, who will tell you what you have to do!
Get ready for next week illustration guys because we’re getting feisty.
