It was very difficult to write this article as both my mac and iPhone were crying all day.
-Hello "Saeko"! Before we go any further, introduce yourself to our wonderful audience.
-Hello everybody! I'm half-Vietnamese half-French, I'm an illustrator and a wildlife portraitist. I have mainly worked on children's books, novels, schoolbooks... Right now I'm working on my first professional comic book.
-How old are you?
-I won't answer that ;P
-Ow mysteries, I love it. Where do you live?
-Near Paris, in France.
-"Wildlife portraitist", if I want to picture it, I see a dog, with a beautiful bow tie, posing lasciviously on a sofa while you're drawing it... it is basically your job?
-Haha, my dogs love to pose! But yeah, I basically work from pictures the clients send me
-And how did you become a portraitist?
-By chance, being a dog owner, I started to draw portraits for my friends, then thanks to word of mouth I started to get several orders. So I started to get paid for that, besides my other job (I work in human resources).
-Can you tell us more about your comic book or is that top secret?
-It's called "Arthur" and it'll be published by Nâga Editions. The editor suggested a scenario to me, that I liked, and I agreed to work with him. It's a Fantasy/Adventure comic book, the story is about how a young boy who finds out he has powers once he's in possession of an antique katana. When Arthur touches the weapon, he gets thrown into Japan, in a samurai's skin. He leads an army in the middle of great battles from early Edo time.
-Are you passionate about Japan?
-Yes I'm a huge Japan fanatic since years!
-As we've asked many artists who took part in illustrated Saturday... Why did you choose this story?
-I admit I love every ambiguous relationship between men in manga or TV shows in general. So by reading this FML I thought "that's the one I wanna do!" because she really made me laugh. Awkward moment for both of them, I love it, and it's really funny to draw.
-It's magical, we all love awkwardness .. except when it happens to us. Thank you Saeko for taking part!
