Today, while showering, I broke the cap off the shampoo. Not my shampoo, my roommate's. The $60 shampoo I swore I wouldn't touch. FML

So you don't have an issue with stealing? If you want to try it, get off your ass and earn the money for it. Whether it's a hair product or not, op's roommate didn't want them to use it and spent THEIR money on it.

break all the caps off the other shampoo bottles as well. Tell your roommate that you slipped and as you were going down you tried to grab anything you could to help stop the fall, which ended up with you breaking everything you touched

I don't get why so many people advocate lying about it. Just say sorry I did it. I didn't mean to break it. How long can the roommate be pissed? Pretty petty if that causes a big problem. Don't lie Your honesty is very important to maintain integrity

Depends on how it got broken. If OP tripped or bumped it totally by accident, then yeah, you can't get too mad at that. But it's not petty to get pissed at someone for doing the one thing you asked them not to, so if OP was using it and dropped it, then I think the roommate has every right to be pissed for as long as they like. It's a violation of trust.

It's not just op's shower, it's pretty sad if your roommate is such a bitch that you can't trust them not to use your things(assuming op was using it and not just bumped it, bumping I wouldn't really see as an issue though)
