Today, out of habit from twelve years of karate classes, I bowed to my teacher as I exited my classroom. My chemistry classroom. FML

It shows that you've learned respect, maybe a little out of context, but there is a bright side to this

I've nearly done the same thing after 9 years in marital arts.. Or replied with 'osu' or 'yes Sensei' .. Oops :/

"Marital arts" do you study the "art" of marriage?

I didn't catch that! Switching the "i" and "t" makes a world of a difference.

Eh, a lot of Asian countries do the same. In Singapore, the class bows when greeting or ending class.

It's alright OP it just shows you're disciplined and not a rude ass student or something

Should've attempted a smooth transition into tying your shoelaces or something, although it's too bad that we will almost never think up these ideas until after it's happened :P

Happens. I've done it to servers at restaurants who do more of a serving line. They think it's hilarious

I'm also in karate (8 years and counting) and I can't even tell you how many times I've responded to a teacher or professor by saying "yes sir" or "yes ma'am", which is how we are required to respond to our instructors at the karate studio.

I don't get . We had to say yes ma'am/ sir and no ma'am / sir to our elders when I was a child/ teen. my friend even says it to her kids .she's trying to teach them at an early age to respect people.

49, I like that someone is teaching that to their kids! It may be a bit formal for this generation, but it's awesome that they're being taught to respect others/and their elders. I think more parents should be teaching their kids this!
