If this were in the US in an "At Will" state, I would say you're screwed, but from what I know of Canadian law, this isn't legal and is grounds for a lawsuit. Granted, my knowledge of Canadian law is less broad than my understanding of USA laws, so I could be wrong. There's always the choice to start a social campaign against them, though. As long as you stick to factual statements and don't directly attack the company, they can't do much about it. Even if you, say, got in contact with anyone else they've done this to and organized it so the stories got more attention.
