Today, my fiancé received his divorce papers. Thanks to his procrastinating, his divorce is effective May 29th. We're supposed to get married on May 28th. FML

I can't feel sorry for you because you knew he was still legally married, yet you planned your own wedding to him. The smart thing would have been to wait until his divorce was final, especially since you know him and know he's a procrastinator

Can you sign the papers and stuff on the 30th but still have the ceremony on the 28th? Anyway, so sorry OP.

Have the ceremony on the 28th, stop whining until you get it recognized on the 29th. Remember his good qualities, if the pros and cons don't balance then call it off, the flak you receive would be worth it.

You need someone who is jumping into your arms, not dragging ass on what he needs to do to marry you. How much is he going to work for your relationship once you're actually married?

Sorry about this, the marriage and divorce system is a little messed up. But, I moderated this one! I said Yes

If you knew he was already married, you probably should have pressured your fiancé to get it done before the ceremony, it's a mix of both your faults

Regardless of paperwork, I can imagine you'd have a dubious feeling during the ceremony. It's not really fake, but it will be difficult

Why would you set a marriage date with someone who isn't yet divorced?

As someone else pointed out, it could've been a pressure point to get it done, if she knew he was a procrastinator, might've set it to get his butt into gear,

So again I ask, why would anyone want to marry someone who needs a "pressure point" to get it done? And people wonder why so many marriages fail. Protip: People who wan to get married and are willing to put in the work a marriage requires don't need to be pressured to seal the deal

OP, I hear the cast of sister wives is hiring. :)

It takes 48 hours for your marriage to become legal so you'll be good

Have the wedding as ceremonial, then sign the wedding papers a couple of days later? Then that way you can enjoy your big day.

What part of ontario? cause I'm going to a wedding on the 28th as well ( I'm from ontario)

You never make marriage plans until the divorce is finalised. This happens so often.
