Today, my estranged, alcoholic father decided to tell me I have a sister. After 30 mins of him describing how beautiful she is and how much we look alike and how she has lived one town away from me her entire life, I was excited to the point of tears. Too bad she died a year ago. Thanks dad. FML

Today, my dad introduced me to my half-sister. He'd only recently found out that he had another daughter by another woman, and had only just met her. She and I have been in the same class in school for the past three years. FML

Today, my estranged father died. No one bothered to tell me, and the only reason I found out was because his wife texted my sister. When I asked about the service, I was told I was no welcome in the state he had lived in, because I was no longer family. FML

Today, my mother casually told me she’s been seeing someone for the past 3 months. My dad passed away 2 years ago. They were together for 40 years. Suddenly she had to get off the phone with me because her “guy she’s been talking to” was calling. Hence I’m on the wine. FML

Today, I found out that my dad has drunkenly told my sister more than once that he doesn’t love either of us, and even then he prefers her over me. All these years I thought I was crazy for thinking I had any kind of daddy issues, but I guess that must be why I’m a phenomenal fuck. FML

I have a similar story, my alcoholic/substance abusive father came to me at age 8 to tell me that I had a sister while i was doing my homework.

So OP lost a sister she never had? How is that bad. I mean, think about it, if she had met the sister a year earlier and then she had died. That would have been unnecessary pain.

White - Really, pal? Her father kept a sister away from her for years, and just now decides to tell her, and describes how amazing she is, and now OP is uber excited to meet her and have someone to bond with .... and then bam. she's dead. 'Course that hurts, dummy. & Yes, meeting her and having her die would have hurt more, but she would have at least got to meet her own sister.

Just because she didn't meet her doesn't mean it won't hurt. =/ I've got a half-sister out there and I'd be devastated to find out she died a year before I met her.
