Fair enough, but really, regardless of how mom was told, it's not like who her daughter chooses to have sex with really affects moms life. So The daughter can't have biological children with another chick, but other than that, gayness will not affect moms life negatively.

It's a fad, OP. Adolescents and young adults as well tend to fall with the crowd, and the crowd says **** smashing works, so let there be **** smashing. Parents tend to be unable to stop it, let it go. Although, it may be possible she has a preference of girls. Just approach the subject somewhat delicately, and discover a few things.

Why? There's been no hurtful speech, no insults being slung, no slurs being uttered. What I've seen so far is fairly tame jokes, outpourings of respect for the daughter for coming out, and fairly gentle admonitions of the mother for not seeming to be someone the daughter could tell face-to-face. The simple fact that a comment thread includes discussions of sexuality and sexual orientation does NOT mean it needs to be closed.
