Today, my boyfriend told me he's prepared to commit to marriage, but only if I buy my own ring and tell everyone he surprised me with it. FML

Taking credit for you spending thousands of dollars? Wow how ******* sweet of him.

Hasn't there been warning signs like he'd do something like this before? Like with a surprise birthday or similar? You don't want to marry someone as conceited as that, anyway. Go find someone who is in love with the idea of marrying you and will buy you your ring themselves! Trust me.. It's not that uncommon

Yeah that's what I noticed about a lot of these FMLs - they seem to exist in a vacuum. Unless he was kidding, wouldn't the guy show other selfish traits long before this?

I may find the whole thing about spending tons of money for something that simply goes on my significant other's finger to be a complete sham, but that's certainly low of him to try that crap with you. Very sleazy.

Buy a ring pop then tell everyone he tried to propose to you with it

At least you will get the exact ring you want.

But not exactly the husband she wants.

I think it's okay if the girl wants to buy a ring, or both, if she chooses to (equality) but the guy shouldn't take credit for it. Talk it out and maybe the situation will improve.

Well wait one second here. Do you make more money than him? If so, your path to revenge has already been laid! Even so, he should get a ring for you that he can afford. Because afterall, it is the meaning behind the ring that is important. Not the three carat rock, yes?

Wow OP your boyfriend sounds like a real keeper that's crazy he wants to take credit for a ring you buy i think you should tell him exactly where he can stick that "proposal".
