Today, it was my first day at school in the United States. Being from France, my French accent is really strong. After being made fun of all day, I met someone from Montreal. I was so excited and said, "Parlez-vous Français?" And his response? "HUH?!" FML

Being from Canada, I do know that the French that is spoken in Montreal is different than that which is spoken in France. It is almost like two different languages.

65 - Good comparison. Alan - you'd have to consider how to address people too - we use 'tu' and 'vous' here, whereas in France I believe you'd only use 'vous'. Correct me if I'm wrong... I'm going by my vague memory of what my professor said.

Why would you even say "parlez-vous français" and not "tu parles français"? You said it was school and not work... And as the other guys said, why would people have fun of you? Somehow I think this FML is rather made up by a French-hater or in any case not a French person.

Americans make fun of other American accents the rest of the world makes fun of American accents and they also make fun of each others accents. What I'm ashamed of is that we're in a position to help so many people yet we choose to fight senseless conflicts. But I still love this country very much my life would suck without it if I were even still alive. :)
