Today, I went to see my orthodontist. He informed me that I have an underbite and I will probably need braces again. I just had them taken off last year, after five and a half years of oral hell. FML

I had a sister who had that same problem, except she decided to get surgery instead. 5 years later it's like she never had an under bite. Maybe, if you want to, you can do the same thing and get surgery over braces

I'm not surprised. Dentists are some sadistic bastards.

I feel your pain. I had braces for 7 years and it sucked. :/

Hopefully, your orthodontist will let you get colors on your braces!

Those so called "colors" hurt like hell. Its actually a power chain thats supposed to help re-align your teeth, and its cuts the **** out of your mouth and gums. I sadly have a blue one in my mouth right now....

Actually, you can get colored brackets.

OH MY GOSH power chains are the cruelest thing... Sooooo painful ;(

Uhh.. I have braces but I don't have a so called "power chain." My braces have these little colored plastic circle things that go around the bracket.

Um I have colors around my brackets... and I don't have a "power chain"...

I have colors on my brackets... and I don't have a "power wire"... So you don't have to go through much pain to have colors on your braces.

Time to find a dentist that can do his job right the first time

yeah maybe you should have seen the proper orthodontist in the first place, maybe one who specializes in the jaw. they know their stuff and do it right the first ..uh 5 years.....

People don't understand the depression brought on by braces until they have had them. I can't imagine getting another set. Sorry OP :(

I have had braces… and they have never brought on deep depression. I'm happy with my pretty teeth. Worth it.

I had mine for 4 years, and after a handful of surgeries, senior pictures with a metal mouth, and popping Advil like candy after each tightening visit, I can't imagine doing it all over.

Could be much worse. At least your are taking care of the issue rather than ignoring it. Some people don't bother with it at all. Although you had them a long time and getting them back after finally being rid of them is truly frustrating. Think of it this way, that's better than rotting teeth.

No one's teeth will rot because of crooked teeth or a over/underbite. Sure, it may not be the perfect model smile but it doesn't matter much if the person doesn't mind it. As long as one brushes and flosses properly and gets check ups, it shouldn't be necessary for them to get braces.

Dental business is down, and you were good for 5.5 years' worth. Time for a second opinion.

I feel your pain, I had mine for six years, then had to put them on again 6 months later for 2 more years. FYL indeed. Sorry OP.

I'd get an opinion from another orthodontist. If you have an underbite, it will probably require corrective jaw surgery, not more braces.
