Today, I was granted a donation to pay for a creative writing course. When I told my mom she couldn't even muster a smile. She found her excitement later, however, when she posted how proud she was of me on Facebook. I can only get praise through my mom attention-whoring on social media. FML

People get so distracted by social media today that they don't take the time to realize that memories are happening right in front of them

sounds like my parents, when I got a full ride to Alabama they shrugged their shoulders. take solace in being good enough for yourself

It's Better than nothing right? Just hope she doesn't swipe your writing and post it as a note on Facebook and tag herself...hope all goes well OP...

"Look at this story about a shallow, loveless mother. My kid has such a wonderful imagination!"

Cmon' we all knew parents on the internet was a BAD idea

I'm my opinion if your mum was proud enough to exploit your achievements online, then you also should be acknowledged face to face. Nowadays parents tend to forget that a little bit of encouragement and acknowledgement from parents to their children goes a long way. I think some parents have forget that. And it's sad.

And now she can brag about you being an internationally acclaimed short story writer.

Am I the only one who feels like the mother might have a problem with showing her daughter her excitement to her daughter's face, not just the fact that she's an attention *****?
