You don't argue with the police officer, no matter if their wrong. You take that ticket - that proof of discretion - to a damned court and you dispute it like its nobodies business. You're lucky you didn't leave with two more tickets for disorderly conduct and whatever else the cop could've come up with. Also, how did you not recognize your SO's own father?
First of all, it's *they're. Second of all, it was probably her first time meeting her boyfriend's dad. But I do agree that you shouldn't ever have a "cuss war" with a cop, much less argue up to that point.
