Today, I tried on the wedding dress of my dreams. The problem? It was in ivory. My family, who is purchasing the dress as a gift, will only let me wear white. FML

woah... 'let' you wear white? seeing as you're getting married, you're old enough to make your own decisions for one of the most memorable days of your life. Id politely decline the gift and wear what i want to wear. They arent the ones walking down the isle.. its the Bride and Groom's big day. Not theirs. Best of luck Op. And if they threaten to not come, well call their bluff. Because the day is all about the both of you and no one should try to control you or ruin it. xx

Is there no way to order it in white? When I got my wedding dress I had the option of ordering it in either white or ivory. Also, it's ridiculous to dictate the color of your dress, even if they are paying for it. Best of luck!

Why don't you kindly decline the gift and pay it yourself? You are the bride, you should wear what you want to wear.

a conditional gift not worth accepting. It's your day, if you wanna wear a chicken suit to walk down the isle that is your prerogative! hope all goes well and many well wishes for a happy marriage!

It's your wedding not theirs, you make the decisions about what goes on and what you wear, nothing to do with their views. You could have a circus wedding for all you want, it's not their place to *let* you do what you want

If its not their day, they should have no say! Sorry to hear this happened to you, OP.

Honestly I'd say screw them and buy the dress I wanted, this isn't some prom dress, it's your wedding. Even if you have to scrape the bottom of the barrel to pay for it I would think having your dream dress in the end rather than regret would be worth it.

Just call it "candle white" instead of ivory. I'm a bride and I understand there are different shades of white but to be that nit picky is dumb.
