Today, I told my dad I want to enlist in the army and he tried to lock me in my room. He did almost the same thing when I told him I wanted to do certain college courses to make it easier to become a police officer, only there was a lot more swearing and throwing of objects. FML

Today, I saw a man in an army uniform. As a bit of a patriot, I went up to thank him for his service. After about 10 minutes of me going on and on, he started laughing. He wasn't a soldier. FML

Today, my husband told his parents that he was quitting his job so that he could focus on school. They asked him what he was going to do for money. When I told them that I'd be the one working, they took one look at me and burst into laughter. FML

When I brought up enlisting in the Navy instead of going to college, my parents smacked me upside the head and tried to pray the stupidity away. They were serious.

I got the same reaction when I told a family friend I was joining the military ten years ago.. Her son now models female undergarments for a fetishe website. I have a college degree and a well paying career with the USMC. Don't let haters stop you, even if they are in your family.
