FYL, if he hasn't got a VERY good excuse for that. But since he's at least ashamed of living with his mom (I assume that, because he didn't let you come over or told you) there is still a little hope. Chances are, that he is just about to plan his ...coming of age (sounds too strange). Head high, OP, wit a little help he might actually become a man someday

I don't see how this makes him any less of a man. On the contrary, in fact. He could well be swallowing his pride and moving in with his mum due to money problems etc. You can't really be sure, more information is needed but until you know the real reason, you can't really say that he's any less of a man. Money is very tight these days.
