Today, I got stopped by people asking for donations for their charity services. Being who I am, I hate saying no to people, so I told them "I don't have any money, only my card." Did you know they also accept payment by card? FML

you shouldnt be ashamed of saying no, no one is forcing you to pay them.

It's your money, don't be ashamed if you don't want to donate it.

it doesn't matter if they accept cards or not, there are so many scams out there, they can wear any shirt and call them we help poor people.... be real careful.

I wish you hadn't given up your card details. If I was you I'd have the card stopped and a new one reissued. You may have fallen victim to scammers. Hope it's not already too late OP. Next time just say I'm sorry but I have already chosen my charities to help out.

I'm fully the same! I try to say oh no thank you sorry and not give a reason because as you've found out you can end up by digging yourself a bigger hole lol

Portable debit machines make you put your money where your mouth is my friend. either you want to give or you don't want to give. don't wuss out by saying I only have credit cards. Clearly say yes or no and go from there, your bluff was called

With the invention of good ol' Square, if you have a smartphone and a PayPal account, anything from "charity" to small businesses can take credit/debit card purchases.

Yep, around here, even the girl scouts have them

YDI for being who you are...a chicken shit.

That's rude. While OP could have used a different (and better) excuse, they do not deserve to be called names for trying to be polite.

#51 It's not rude. It's true. OP didn't have the courage to be honest. And he didn't do it to be polite. He did it to look like he would have donated if he'd had any cash on him and then (literally) paid the price for that lie.

It may be a scam, sometimes people make up false charities and then ask for money
