Believe it or not, it isn't an good idea to drop everything and travel to the nearest 'big' city with no job, no living arrangements, and no idea when you'll have either. Second, just because a store is closing doesn't mean they live in the middle of nowhere, it means that demand dropped off. Third, some people like living in smaller towns, since there's usually a lower chance of being a victim of a crime, and it makes it easier to form closed communities.
