Today, I failed on a school presentation because I was not prepared. Apparently, the fact that my computer crapped itself and started giving off smoke last period isn't a good reason for not having my presentation prepared. FML

You should always email assignments to yourself directly after completing them. It stays in your inbox where it can be found whenever needed.

in college I had to learn this lesson the hard way. just remember, always have backups of your backups of your backups. If I have a huge important project I save it to my computer, save it to my flash drive, email it to myself, and maybe save it on the cloud just to be safe

Speaking as a teacher, you should have had a backup on a flash drive. Another thing you could do is email it to yourself, and should your computer fail by, say, randomly spewing out smoke, you could have borrowed another students computer and kept going. YDI.
