Today, an old man wanted to return a fryer. The box had blood smears all over it, so I told him no. He became irate and demanded a manager. Management said, "Hell no and don't touch that box." When I came back, he was licking a paper towel and attempting to wipe off the blood. FML

Your comments are hilarious. I love the murderer theories. First off, for those guessing this is walmart, you're correct! I almost died laughing. Okay, he had handed me a receipt and I noticed a drop of blood in it. I had just had a red pen leak and thought it was from that. Then I looked at the box. And I stood there going "ummmm...whats going on?" And the old man holds up his arm showing a nickel sized cut that is bleeding profusely. I wasn't sure how to handle such a situation. It's not every day someone tries to return something with blood all over it. So I excused myself to seek a manager. The manager didn't believe me at first. But I told him again and he realized I was serious. After he saw the box in question, he said to the man that he would not even allow me to touch the box. The man was very angry, citing that he had the receipt and everything that came with it. No, I never opened the box. I didn't touch it at all. He tried to get other customers on his side but one said "dude that's blood. I don't blame them. People are touchy about blood. You never know." And then he suggested I should be extra careful because I appeared to be pregnant (which I am not, just really bloated). The old man said "yeah alright" and left without further incident. I went to tell the managers about the second part (where I came back and he was wiping off the box) and they smiled in disbelief and the higher manager said "yeah, we're never returning that" which meant more work for me having to put notes on the registers letting the others know we are not going to return it and why.

Did you ever find out what the blood was from?

OP I report him, because that's either a murder crime evidence or someone forgot it was their week

I don't understand why he can't return the fryer, but just without the box... so what if the box is ruined?

It has to be in a resellable condition if there's nothing wrong with it, thus the need for the box. If it's faulty then usually you can bring it back for a refund minus the box, but his was covered in blood, so what's to say it isn't on the fryer as well? They likely refused it under hygiene reasons.

He said he used it and it quit on him so it had been used and it was defective. Therefore it doesn't go back on the shelf. It goes back to the warehouse where they strongly prefer to have the box.

#15: If it hadn't been used at all and it looked perfectly fine, we could POSSIBLY return it to the shelf. But when dealing with blood of any kind it's called "blood born pathogens" and it's a biohazard.

I'm imagining the blood smears to look like it was done by childrens hands and the fryer containing a cut up human. Makes for a great horror/murder story

*A creepy version of the McDonald's theme plays in the background, followed by the disconnected, haunting sounds of children's laughter*

•_• Walmart!!!...this HAS to be at Walmart!! Lmao!

Either way we know it's some kind of murder

Blood on the box? I don't recommend looking inside the fryer.

Are you really sure that it was a fryer inside the box?

I had a guy bleed like he'd cut off a finger all over my checkout counter and the money he handed me.. I had to clean it up... Without gloves!

That's very unsafe. I would NOT have cleaned it up without gloves.

At least your manager didn't make you accept it. I feel like that's something that could happen in the wonderful world of retail. But it's still awful and disgusting.

Oh my gosh! That is crazy! I work at a Walmart too and do returns and have seen some very strange things, but luckily never had to deal with blood. I'm glad you were able to get the situation dealt with. :)

Ugh that's so gross. You can't be too careful with any blood, so I'm glad you didn't touch it and I'm glad your managers didn't touch it or make you touch it either. I work at a bank as a teller, and one time a tube came in through the drive thru and when I pulled the guys ID out, one of the corners had blood on it and it had already gotten on my hand. I immediately ran to the bathroom and washed my hand and his ID and I found some gloves in the cleaning closet so I could grab his ID again. It was so gross and I'm so lucky he didn't have some sort of disease. I'm glad you're okay OP! Never ever touch someone else's blood! It's never safe! I should also add that that man should never have brought that in to return it, he should know better.
