This Jamaican Lottery Winner Hid Her Identity With An Emoji Mask And It's Both Brilliant And Hilarious
N. Gray, who won 180 million Jamaican dollars (1 million USD) as part of the Super Lotto jackpot on May 11, collected her earnings wearing a plastic winking emoji mask. We can't say we don't understand the motive behind wanting to hide her identity, as that much money and media attention is basically asking for something bad to happen -- but we do have to have a laugh.
What's unique about the story is that she chose the winking emoji mask. We have so many questions. Why not just go with a hat, hoodie, sunglasses, scarf combo a la celebrities who are being chased by the paperazzi? Did she go out and buy the mask, or did she just have that thing lying around in case a situation like this arose? If she went out and bought it, was the winky face emoji purposefully cheeky? We need answers, anonymous millionaire lady.
No matter the reasoning behind the mask, what we do know is that the money came at a good time for Gray (not that there is ever really a bad time to pocket a million bucks,) and we know that she will put the money towards some good.
"I am elated, because I was drowning in debt. I started buying Super Lotto in January... Now I've won, I want to clear my debt, invest, and I want to do some travelling. I would like to construct a community centre for the youths in my community, so they can engage in something productive; somewhere where they can do information technology," Gray said to The Jamaica Gleaner.
