It's his birthday. Aside from it being rude for him not to tell you - IF he didn't - I feel like he should get to decide what he does for his birthday. If he suddenly got an opportunity to do something fun, shouldn't he get to?

I know how you feel today is my birthday also and my husband is still working and I had to cook my own birthday breakfast, lunch and dinner.. and I'm still waiting on him to come home because I'm gonna hit him with this bottle wine
