Today, I finally got my mum to agree to get a puppy. After driving for two hours to the place the person told us he had sold the one we wanted in the morning and decided not to tell us. She now doesn't want to get one. FML

Keep the persons name, and make posts on social media about them having bad business practices, and that you wouldn't suggest going to them. Let's see... 1: Sold an animal that they said they would hold for another person. 2: Didn't disclose that they had sold the puppy despite likely knowing you and your mother were traveling to get there. 3: Informed you they sold the puppy when you got there. 4: Knowing people that do the above, they probably sold the pup for double or triple of what they quoted you. If they're this shady, they probably have other dubious practices that they exercise. I'd say wait a bit (unsurprisingly, humans can grieve failed adoptions, which this essentially was) and then bring up adopting a shelter dog- way cheaper, most shelters include spaying and neutering in the adoption fees, you know that you are 100% saving that dog from either a miserable life or a rapidly encroaching death, and most decent shelters will actually hold an animal you pick out- if you do so online- for a few days. I'm sorry the person was such an asshole and hope your mom comes around to adogtion again soon.

This happened to us a while back. Our local animal shelter had the sweetest dog. We filled out all the paperwork for her and bought a ton of stuff; bowls, toys, a bed and more. After initially saying she was ours when we filled out the paperwork, my mom calls a few days later to find out why they haven't called... They gave her to someone who came in after us. The reason? They looked up where we lived and since we didn't give our 'landlords phone number", which no one has by the way, we were passed over. We live in a privately owned trailer park where everyone has pets. They pretended it was because they didn't know if we were allowed to have pets. Didn't call and ask for it or anything... Say they did, but our caller ID and stay at home mom says otherwise. That's how we ended up with our dog now. This old couple posted online that they couldn't take care of their puppy... Paid $100 for him and his stuff. Eight years later he's still here and happy.

If this was an actual FML I would say YDI. Don't shop, adopt. help fix the problem of stray and abandoned dogs, not encourage it.
